What does young art have to offer today? Every two years, the nationwide competition "Bundespreis für Kunststudierende" shows the best art students in a prize-winning exhibition at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn.
The "Federal Prize for Art Students" is endowed with prize money of 30,000 euros. In addition, a production grant totaling 18,000 euros supports the artists in creating works specifically for the exhibition.
The "Federal Prize for Art Students" aims to showcase the diversity of training and artistic positions at German art academies. It specifically promotes outstanding students and enables them to gain professional exhibition experience, show their work to a broad public and make contacts in the art world. All 25 German art academies, colleges and universities represented in the 'Die Kunsthochschulen' forum take part in the competition and each nominate two of their students or student teams. An independent jury of experts then selects up to eight winners from the 50 nominees on the basis of portfolios.
Federal Prize for Art Students enters its 27th round
Three institutions support the competition: the Federal Ministry of Education and Research sponsors the competition, the German Student Union organizes and coordinates it, and the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn shows the exhibition of the prize winners. The competition began in 1983 and is held every two years.
The exhibition for the 26th national competition opened on October 26, 2023 in the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn and was on display until January 7, 2024. Detailed information on the winners of the 26th national competition can be found on the separate website for the "Bundespreis für Kunststudierende".
Currently in its 27th edition, 25 art academies have submitted a total of 50 nominations, including student teams, from which an expert jury will select the prize winners at the beginning of 2025.
The award ceremony and exhibition opening will take place on November 6, 2025 at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn.
