Places in Studierendenwerke halls of residence are very popular – and run out very quickly. You are recommended to contact the study location's Studierendenwerk well in advance of the start of the semester.
How can I apply for a place in a hall of residence?
The local Studierendenwerke have detailed information about application procedures. There are numerous accommodation services on Studierendenwerke websites, including online forms, information on halls of residence, photos and floor plans.
Allocation criteria
Allocation criteria differ depending on the location. Some Studierendenwerke allocate places using lots, others award places in chronological order based on the dates applications are received.
Special attention is given to certain groups of people when allocating places in halls of residence, including:
- students with physical disabilities or chronic illnesses,
- students with extraordinarily difficult personal circumstances,
- international students are usually allocated a room as part of a service package offered by 40 Studierendenwerke.
