A festive public award ceremony was held on October 26, 2023 to mark the opening of the exhibition at the Bundeskunsthalle. Prize money and production grants were awarded on the recommendation of an independent jury of experts.
Award winners and prizewinners
A three-member jury of experts selected the winners from 48 art students nominated for the competition from art colleges and academies in Germany. The jury meeting to select the winners of the 26th national competition took place at the end of January 2023.
Detailed information on the winners can be found here.
Jury
The jury consists of three members who may not work at one of the participating universities. It is appointed jointly by the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle and the Rectors' Conference of German Art Colleges. The members of the jury for the 26th national competition are
Fatima Hellberg, Director, Bonner Kunstverein
Christiane Mennicke-Schwarz, Artistic Director, Kunsthaus Dresden
Anna Nowak, Artistic Director, Kunsthaus Hamburg
Prize money, production grant and catalog
Funding for the winners of the "Bundespreis für Kunststudierende" is based on three pillars:
- prize money - totaling 30,000 euros. The independent jury determines the number of prizes and, depending on this, the amount of the respective prize money.
- a production grant - totaling 18,000 euros, which allows the prizewinners to produce specific works of art for the exhibition.
- an individual catalog - per prizewinner, which documents the artistic work and can be ordered from the Deutsches Studierendenwerk.
